- Lemurs are a type of primate native to Madagascar, a large island nation off the east coast of Africa.
- Most lemurs have large eyes and a long tail.
- Lemurs live in trees and are generally very agile. Sifaka lemurs, for example, are capable of jumping long distances and hopping sideways along the ground.
- There are around 100 different species of lemur. Many are endangered due to loss of habitat and hunting from humans.
- Lemurs as big as gorillas existed on Madagascar before humans came to the island a few thousand years ago.
- The smallest type of lemur is Madame Berthe’s mouse lemur, it is also the smallest primate in the world, weighing around 30 g (1 oz).
